5.9 magnitude quake jolts parts of Pakistan

Three people, including a woman, were injured in roof collapse incidents due to quake in Peshawar.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - An earthquake measuring 5.9 on Richter Scale rocked parts of Pakistan on early Wednesday morning, injuring at least three persons in roof collapse incidents in Peshawar, Dunya News reported.

The tremor was felt in different parts of the countey including, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Gilgit Baltistan, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Pind Dadan Khan, Jhang, Lower Dir, Sakardu, Mardan, Swat, Hangu, Charsadda, Bagh and parts of Azad Kashmir.



People came out of their homes in panic and started reciting verses from the Holy Quran. No loss of life was reported from any part of the country due to earthquake till filing of this report. However, at least three people, including a woman, were injured in roof collapse incidents in Peshawar.

The tremor was also felt as far away as Afghanistan and eastern Uzbekistan.

According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the epicenter of the quake which struck at 01:04am on Wednesday was located in the Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan at the depth of 194 kilometre.

Pakistan is located in one of the most earthquake prone areas with high vulnerability to earthquakes. Geographically, the country lies in the collision zone of the India tectonic plate to the south and the Eurasian plate to the north.
