ECP adjourns hearing of NA-122 votes' transference case until Jan 19
'Fact-file' will be issued regarding Lodhran re-election in the coming week, says Daniyal Aziz
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday has adjourned hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) plea on alleged transference of votes in NA-122 re-election until January 19.
A four-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Raza Khan heard the case.
The hearing was adjourned owing to absence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) counsel, Shahid Hamid as he reportedly is out of the country.
While talking to the media after the postponement, PML-N’s Daniyal Aziz said that people’s rights are being violated in the case. PTI’s defeated candidate in the National Assembly (NA) constituency, Aleem Khan has himself stated in petition that he does not possess any evidence of votes’ transference, he added.
Aziz, rhetorically, asked PTI’s secretary general Jahangir Tareen to get ready as ‘fact-file’ would be issued regarding NA-154 Lodhran re-election in the coming week.
On the other hand, PTI’s Aleem Khan said that he has been asking one simple question for the past three months. “How votes were transferred from NA-122 re-election?”
However, he said that first there was no judge to hear the case then National Assembly’s ‘fake’ Speaker’s counsel absence caused hindrance in the proceedings.
It is a matter of transference of 3,000 votes while the ECP has record of 800 votes, he added. Khan further said that those who have not won any ministry are conduction ‘business’ in front of media.
On the other hand, an election tribunal has entertained pleas of two independent candidates to join plaintiff’s side in NA-122 case against Ayaz Sadiq. The independent candidates have complained that commission’s verdict was unfair.
Two other pleas pertaining to the same case were rejected by the tribunal due to non-prosecution.
Re-election was held on October 11, 2015 after an election tribunal annulled ECPs’ result in the constituency in General Election 2013.
