NA-154 by-polls: LHC suspends disqualification decision of PML-N Siddique Baloch

Baloch will be able to participate in the by-polls as the earlier decision has been suspended.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) Multan bench on Monday suspended Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Siddique Baloch’s disqualification decision and permitted him to contest in the by-polls set to be held on December 23.

The case was heard by a three-member larger bench which consisted of Justice Mamoon-ur-Rasheed, Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa and Justice Shaid.

After hearing the arguments of Siddique Baloch’s lawyer, the bench suspended the earlier decision and summoned both the parties on December 11.

Legal experts are of the view that hearing of the case will continue however; Siddique Baloch will be able to participate in the by-polls as the earlier decision has been suspended.

The tribunal, earlier had disqualified Baloch on grounds of contesting the by-election with a fake degree. Siddique Baloch was de-seated by the tribunal on August 26 over a petition filed by former secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Jahangir Tareen against alleged rigging in NA-154 during the 2013 General Elections.

Baloch was handed over the disqualification for violating Article 62 and 63. Baloch had won the NA-154 seat in the General Election 2013 as an independent candidate. However, the elected Lodhran leader went on to join PML-N.
