ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday approved merger of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to deal with natural calamities more effectively in the future, Dunya News reported.

A parliamentary panel had recommended the government to merge ERRA with NDMA.

ERRA was established for rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the areas affected by a massive earthquake in October 2005, that claimed more than 75,000 lives and displaced some 3.5 million.

According to sources, a major downsizing is expected in ERRA after its merger.

The move comes after 7.1 magnitude earthquake rattled Pakistan on October 26, 2015, killing more than 280 people and injuring up to 1700 people. More than 90,000 houses were also damaged in the disaster.
