PTI leadership says taxes worth Rs. 40 billion just for extracting new loans from IMF unacceptable

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday protested against increase in petroleum prices. PTI leadership maintained that the imposition of new taxes worth Rs. 40 billion just for extracting loans from International Monetary Fund (IMF) was unacceptable, reported Dunya News.

According to details, PTI workers staged protest at Akbar Chowk in Lahore under the leadership of PTI’s central leader Ejaz Chaudhry against the increase in petroleum prices. Workers said that the government was imposing new taxes instead of providing relief to the people.

“Common man is being squeezed. Farmers are financially destabilized. And at such a time, new taxes are being imposed on the people”, said a worker. The workers said that the government must stop pillaging its people to extract loans from IMF and withdraw the increase in petroleum prices.

The Finance Minister on October 31 announced that the petrol price has been raised by Rs. 2.5 while the price of diesel was increased by Rs. 1.45. The Finance Minister announced of these developments while mentioning the government’s generosity saying it has provided relief to the nation.

Dar stated that the price of kerosene, Hi-Octane and light Diesel will remain unchanged. Dar also informed that the date for tax returns has been extended to 30th November.
