PM Nawaz chaired a meeting to review the progress on the development of projects under CPEC.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday directed the Ministry of Interior to beef up security for Chinese workers associated with different projects in country.

He gave this order while chairing a meeting to review the progress on the development of projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) at PM House today.

Federal Minister for Planning Mr. Ahsan Iqbal gave detailed briefing to the Prime Minister. The meeting was also attended by senior government officers.

Nawaz Sharif said that CPEC projects will prove to be game changer for the region. He said that all projects shall be completed within stipulated time.

Terming China a friend and a strategic partner, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Interior to beef up security for the Chinese workforce in Pakistan.

He said that no laxity shall be shown in providing security to the Chinese labour.

It may be mentioned here that General Raheel Sharif, during his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad last month, had already assured that full security will be provided to the CPEC and other similar projects.

The CPEC involves energy and infrastructure projects linking the neighbors economies and creating an "economic corridor" between Pakistan s Gwadar port and China’s western Xinjiang region.

The militancy has raised doubts about the corridor, a network of roads, railways and pipelines, however, the Pak Army said it was tackling the security risks by setting up a special division for the corridor, including nine army battalions and paramilitary forces.
