Pakistanis celebrated Eid with religious zeal and fervor

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Muslims across the world are celebrating third day of Eid-ul-Azha or the Feast of the Sacrifice, which marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, by slaughtering goats, sheep, cows and camels in commemoration of the Prophet Ibrahim s (PBUH) readiness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to Allah.

On Eid-ul-Azha, Muslims sacrifice an animal of their choice and distribute the meat among their friends, neighbours and the poor.
Federal and provincial governments have chalked out elaborate security arrangements across the country on the occasion to ward off untoward incidents.

Civic authorities of different cities and towns have also made special arrangements for disposal of offals and other solid waste during three days of Eid.

Extending Eid greetings to the nation, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have emphasized the need to set practical examples of sacrifice in our lives to help resolve the current issues facing the country.

In their separate messages, both the leaders urged people to share joys of Eid with poor and under-privileged.

STORY BEHIND EID-UL-AZHA

This festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) act of sacrificing his son. He was instructed by Allah in a dream to raise the foundations of Kaaba. Following Allah’s orders, the prophet left for Makkah along with his wife and son. In a dream, he saw that he had sacrificed his son, Ismail for Allah.

When Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) narrated this to his son, he asked his father to do the needful and was willing to sacrifice his life for Allah’s sake. But just when he was about to sacrifice Hazrat Ismail, Allah spared his life and replaced him with a lamb, which Hazrat Ibrahim eventually sacrificed.
