SC begins hearing of pleas against 18th amendment

Dunya News

Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday remarked that the political leaders always harmed the political system of the country, adding that such a phenomenon begun during the martial law of General Ayub Khan. A 17-members bench of Supreme Court, under the head of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of identical petitions against some clauses of 18th amendment on Tuesday. Federations counsel Sardar Ghazi argued that SC is not entitled to scrap any of the amendment in the Constitution and he cited some verses from Surah Nisa. Justice Ramday said that everybody is a judge in himself and he should mete out justice, adding that the society would collapse if people would consider judges to do that only. Federations counsel said that the judges would not do justice if they would be appointed against merit and added that the new policy regarding judges appointment is more secure and sovereign. Advocate Sardar Ghazi has completed his arguments while Ibrahim Sattis arguments are underway.
