Imran Khan demands CEC for army deployment in NA-122, 154 by-elections
Imran Khan talked to media after meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Matters related to rigging in 2013 general elections, upcoming by-elections and EC members’ role were discussed in the meeting.
Talking to media after the meeting, Khan said he has submitted party’s reservations and talked in detail on lapses and negligence from the ECP as pointed out in the judicial commission report regarding 2013 general elections.
“Glad to know that they have already started working on it,” he said.
The PTI chief said that he has requested the Chief Election Commissioner for deployment of army for NA-122 and NA-154 by-elections to be held on October 11 this year.
“We do not trust Punjab police as it has become police of Noon League (PML-N),” Khan said.
He further said: “We had no problems in KP local government by-elections in the presence of Army for security.”
He said that it has been established that all parties do not trust Punjab Election Commission as it appears to be a partner of the ruling PML-N.
They have no moral standing especially after the JC report in addition to complaints from 21 parties, he said.
Imran Khan said he has also demanded resignation of all four members but Sardar Raza Khan has said that Commission members have constitutional appointments and he cannot do anything in this regard.
The PTI leader once again announced that his party will hold a historic rally on October 4 outside the ECP headquarters in Islamabad if the provincial EC members did not resign.
The CEC assured Khan that shortcomings of the Election Commission will be fixed soon.
Khan also informed him that the Punjab government is using state resources to influence elections in the province.
He reiterated that the PML-N and PPP had collusion which resulted in 18th amendment and "they formed their own ECP and NAB."
At the end, the PTI chief said that those who have violated party discipline will be expelled from the party.
