Monsoon starts in upper parts of country

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Met office has forecast beginning of Monsoon season in upper parts of the country from midnight tonight (Sunday), Dunya News reported.

A Met office spokesman told Radio Pakistan this morning that a weather system from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is heading towards Pakistan and would cause monsoon rains with thundershower in Kashmir, Hazara, Islamabad and Rawalpindi divisions from tonight.

To a question, the spokesman said the system would extend upto Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha and Sahiwal divisions on Monday.
To another question, the spokesman said that a less than normal Monsoon with some uncertainties is expected in the country during the upcoming season from July to September this year.

However, a few extreme rainfall events may occur over AJK, North-east Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulting into flooding due to interaction of easterly and westerly systems.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert about the upcoming heavy monsoon rains in all districts of the province.

A press release issued by the authority in Peshawar says that rain is expected in Hazara division today and a day after on Monday.
Similarly scattered rain is likely in rest of the province.

All the relevant departments have been directed to be ready for any emergency.
