Supreme Court orders re-election in NA-19 constituency

The SCP has ordered the PML-N candidate to return salaries he has taken as MNA
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Friday has ordered a re-election in the National Assembly (NA) constituency 19 Haripur.
The verdict came in the review plea filed by losing candidate Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Raja Amir Zaman against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Umer Ayub after tribunal ordered re-polling.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Jawwad gave the verdict which was earlier reserved.
Earlier, in the General Elections 2013 Zaman had defeated the PML-N candidate who then filed a plea in the tribunal. Upon the orders of the tribunal, re-polling was carried out and Ayub took the lead with a margin of at least 622 votes.
Zaman then approached the SCP in the matter however, the court upheld the tribunal’s verdict. Following the SCP’s verdict, Zaman filed a review plea. The SCP has now given its verdict ordering the PML-N candidate to return the salaries he has taken so far as MNA.
The SCP has also ordered holding of re-election in the constituency.
