Hafiz Saeed demanded the immediate resignation of Pervez Rashid
LAHORE (Daily Dunya) -- Religious and political leaders called for immediate dismissal of Federal Minster Pervez Rashid on Friday, calling his remarks on seminaries as ‘blasphemous’, reported Dunya News.
Political and religious leaders said that Pervez Rashid had questioned the very basis on which the country’s foundation had been laid and demanded that Prime Minister should dismiss the minister from his position.
The leaders that voiced their opinions regarding Pervez Rashid include chief of Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD), prominent military analyst General (R) Hameed Gul, Head of Muslim League Zia, Ijaz ul Haq among others.
Chief JuD Professor Hafiz Saeed said that terming madaris as ‘centers of ignorance’ is paramount to blasphemy, in an obvious reference to Information Minister Pervez Rashid.
Hafiz Saeed demanded the immediate resignation of Pervez Rashid.
Prominent military analyst General (R) Hameed Gul said judging from Pervez Rashid’s statements, it can be inferred that he had studied from a ‘university of ignorance’.
He said that religious schools serve Islam adding that it is the rulers themselves that are acting against the nation.
He condemned Pervez Rashid’s statements, stating that it is irresponsible on the Information Minister’s part to utter such a statement.
Head of Muslim League Zia, Ijaz ul Haq and other leaders said that Madaris are the theoretical foundation of the state.
Quoting the number of Madaris at 25 lacs, the leaders said Pervez Rashid had made mockery of a very large number of students that had enrolled in such institutions.
The political and religious leaders said that such statements incite hatred among the populace adding that one should refrain from making such claims.
