NA-246: MQM beats all opponents in Karachi by-poll

Kanwar Naveed secured 93,125 votes, Imran Ismail got 22000 votes while Rashid Naseem got 12000
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidate Kanwar Naveed Jamil has on Thursday defeated all its opponents in NA-246 by-election. Kanwar Naveed secured 93,125 votes in the election to win back MQM’s vacated seat while Imran Ismail of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) remained runner-up with 22000 votes. Rashid Naseem of Jamaat Islami (JI) got 12,000 votes, reported Dunya News.
Although there were 11 candidates in the constituency yet the contest was mainly between the MQM, JI and PTI candidates. This seat had been vacated by defected MQM leader Nabeel Gabol.
Polling process started at 8 in the morning and continued till 5 in the evening. There were 213 polling stations in the constituency where police and Rangers were deployed in heavy numbers.
As the results started to arrive, MQM workers also began to celebrate by dancing and distributing sweets.
