"Unless reservations about 21st Amendment not pacified will not support 22nd Amendment": JUI-F chief

ISLAMABAD (Dunya news, Webdesk) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal’s (JUI-F) head Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman on Wednesday has refused to support the 22nd Amendment. Rehman stated that unless his reservations about the 21st Amendment were not pacified he will not support the 22nd constitutional Amendment. A 5 member committee lead by Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique met with the JUI-F chief. The committee was formed in relation to the 22nd Amendment made in the constitution to stop horse trading in Senate Elections. Rehman flat out refused to support the 22nd Amendment similar to his refusal to support 21st Amendment.

Fazal-ur-Rehman while talking to the media after the meeting stated that how can someone pinched by the 21st Amendment support the 22nd. He stated that JUI-F and other religious parties had their reservations about the 21st Amendment but no one thought it as worthy to mitigate those reservations. Rehman stated that now religious parties are being consulted for 22nd Amendment.

The JUI-F chief stated that they had reservations about the policy adopted in 21st Amendment regarding religious schools and religious parties but nobody even tried to dissipate those concerns. Rehman stated that he did not believe in forceful changes in law and JUI-F will never support such forceful amendments.
