Punjab, KP bar council elections underway
High security has been ensured by local administration to avoid any mishap.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Elections for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Bar Association are underway on Saturday in different cities, Dunya News reported.
According to details, 358 candidates are contesting for 75 seats of Punjab Bar Council across the province. 79700 lawyers are likely to use their votes whereas 228 polling stations have been made.
Advocate General of Punjab Hanif Khatala would perform his duty as an election commissioner.
It is for the first time that elections for Punjab Bar Council are being conducted in the premises of Lahore High Court (LHC) whereas voting will be continued till 4 pm.
21 applicants including three women are competing on four seats of Punjab Bar Council in Multan whereas 3600 bar members will utilize their voting right to elect seven members.
On the other hand, KP province has been divided in to six different zones for council elections where 126 applicants will test their fate on 23 seats.
Also, 62 candidates are competing for seven seats in Peshawar. Senior civil judges as presiding officers and 13 most senior judges as polling officers have been deployed for election process in 25 districts.
However, tight security measures are also being taken up on this occasion.
