Pakistan, Russia sign defense cooperation agreement

Sacrifices of the Pakistani people in the war against terror are admirable, says Shoigu
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – An agreement to increase defense cooperation has been signed between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Thursday at the Ministry of Defense.
The agreement was signed in a ceremony at the Defense Ministry in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu were present at the ceremony.
A 41-member Russian delegation is on a visit to Pakistan.
According to the sources, the agreement says that Moscow would give Mi-35 gunship helicopters to Pakistan to be used in the war against terror.
On the occasion, Asif said that this defense cooperation agreement between Pakistan and Russia is a historic milestone.
He said that the measures being taken by Russia to increase cooperation with Pakistan are admirable.
Khawaja Asif said that defense cooperation between both the countries would further increase in the future.
While on the occasion, Shoigu admired the sacrifices of the Pakistani people and the Pakistan Army in the war against terror.
He also said that Pakistan has been buying arms and ammunition from Russia in the past but after the tension between Russia and Afghanistan, Russia had put an embargo on trade with Pakistan.
He further said that few months ago Russia has withdrawn the restriction on trade with Pakistan.
