Petition filed in SC against Presidents eligibility
A petition has filed in the Supreme Court challenging eligibility of President Zardari for getting benefit from the National Reconciliation Order (NRO). A petition has challenged dismissal of reference by Election Commission of Pakistan (CEC) seeking disqualification of Asif Ali Zardari for contesting the presidential election. Complainant Maulvi Iqbal Haider maintained in his plea that President Zardari had benefited from NRO, and as the NRO was declared void so the presidents eligibility to contest election has been affected. He maintained that the federal government was committing contempt of court as it was not following the order of the court on NRO. In the contempt petition, he described the federation and the Election Commission as party in the case. The decision of Chief Election Commissioner to dismiss the petition against President has also been challenged.
