Model Town tragedy: Punjab govt orders registration of FIR against all accused

IG Punjab confirmed that order of Punjab government was received.
LAHORE (Web Desk) - Punjab government on Thursday directed the police to implement Lahore High Court s order regarding registration of case against all accused in Model Town tragedy, Dunya News reported.
On Tuesday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) upheld session court’s decision and directed the police to register a murder case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and 19 other officials in connection with the killing of 14 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) protestors outside the Central Secretariat of Minhajul Quran International in Lahore’s Model Town on June 17.
Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP) Mushtaq Sukhera confirmed that order regarding FIR registration has been received.
"Sections will be applied in the case as per law," he said.
Earlier talking to media outside the Parliament House, Federal Minister Saad Rafiqe said despite having fundamental right to file an appeal against the judgment of the Lahore High Court registration of FIR against the prime minister and other officials, the government has decided not to go for another appeal, which shows its desire to resolve the issues through peaceful means.
He appealed to Tahirul Qadri not to instigate his supporters as the country cannot afford anarchy. The government is still serious to resolve the political issues through dialogue, he added.
A judicial commission constituted to probe the tragedy had held Punjab government responsible for ‘bloodbath’ in Model Town area.
It was mentioned in the report that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had not ordered the police to ‘disengage’ from the clashes with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 people and injuries to over 80 others.
Punjab Police went to remove the barriers placed outside Dr Tahirul Qadri s residence and Minhajul Quran International (MQI) Secretariat in Model Town. The PAT workers resisted the move which led to a deadly clash.
