PTI's core committee demands to hold LB polls

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf headed by Imran Khan held here on Wednesday.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak briefed the committee on preparation for local government elections.
Khattak said that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government is fully prepared to hold local government elections in the province. He said that delimitation process has been completed in the province and nobody objected it.
Pervez Khattak said that the KPK government is ready to hold local government elections on April 30. He told the committee that permission of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is needed to introduce electronic voting and biometric system in the elections.
The Core Committee urged the government to adopt immediate measures to give right of vote to overseas Pakistanis.
Issuing the declaration of the Core Committee, PTI has directed all National and provincial assemblies members to stop traveling to USA.
The committee directed all the MPs not to accept any invitation of the US until it tenders apology.
It was also decided in the meeting that no member of the core committee would intervene in the administrative affairs of KPK government.
The Core Committee also recommended making legislation regarding clash of interests in Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa.
The meeting also decided to hold party convention in Islamabad on the occasion of foundation day of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
It is to mention here that threee-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani heard the KPK local bodies elections case on March 18.
Advocate General Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa Latif Yusufzai told the court the provincial government has completed delimitation process.
He said that the KPK government has also issued the schedule of rules and regulation of Local Bodies Elections. He told that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has implemented Supreme Court’s decision of March 10.
The SC bench directed the provincial government to complete arrangements for holding the local bodies elections in one month.
Latif Yusufzai said the KPK government was waiting SC’s decision regarding delimitation in Punjab and Sindh.
Upon this, Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani said that the court decision about delimitation in Punjab and Sindh will be announced as soon the KPK completes arrangements for the elections.
In January, the Supreme Court had allowed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue new schedule of local government (LG) elections in Punjab and Sindh.
The ECP said that it was not possible to hold local bodies elections on scheduled dates in Sindh and Punjab, adding that there was no way other than to cancel the schedule.
According to the old schedule, the ECP announced to hold LG polls on January 18 and 30 in Sindh and Punjab respectively.
