Rape victim's death after self immolation: SC summons Punjab govt reply

The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Punjab government over the incident.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani heard the suo motu notice on Friday.

The Supreme Court sought report of investigation officer and the medico legal report of the 18-year-old student who set herself on fire in Muzaffargarh on Thursday. The court expressed annoyance over the absence of the Advocate General Punjab.

The Chief Justice in his remarks asked “is this the way the Punjab government is providing justice to the masses.” He directed to present the progress report of the case in the court.

Adjourning the hearing, the Supreme Court summoned Inspector General Police (IG) Punjab and District Police Officer (DPO) Muzaffargarh on March 17.

It is worth mentioning here that an 18-year-old student of first year set herself on fire outside police station in Bait Mir Hazar area of Muzaffargarh on Thursday and died at Nishtar Hospital on Friday.

According to Dunya News, Nadir Hussain along with his two unknown accomplices allegedly raped 18-year-old first year student after refusal of engagement in Bait Mir Hazar area.

A case was also registered in Bait Mir Hazar Police station but the police gave clean chit to the accused and released them. The investigation official set the accused free despite proof of crime in the medical report. As Amna learned about the release of the accused, she set herself on fire outside the police station.

Amna was shifted to Tehsil Heaquarter Hospital Jatoi but the doctors referred her to Nishtar Hospital Multan due to her critical condition. Doctors said that Amna had suffered 70 percent burn injuries.
