Dunya News

Muttahida Qaumi Movement has demanded to conduct new census in Pakistan.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held a protest rally against Sind local government amendment bill outside Karachi Press Club on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering MQM’s Deputy Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui termed the Sindh loacal government ordinance as black law. He said that those who dream of better future have thronged the roads. Siqququi said that the MQM would protect the voters rights.

MQM’s leader Hider Abbas Rizvi alleged PPP of having fake mandate and demanded to conduct new census in the country. He said MQM would not object deployment of army in Karachi for this purpose. Rizvi said that a brutal system was being imposed in Sindh in the name of local government act.

Addressing the rally, Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Faisal Sabzwari said that the provincial government was misusing the public funds and it was behaving like a treasure snake but MQM would resist any misconduct.

Other leaders of MQM including Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan, Saghir Siddiqui and others also addressed the rally. A large number of MQM workers participated in the protest and chanted slogans against amended Sind local government Ordinance.

Sindh Assembly on Friday passed Sindh Local Government Amended Ordinance on Friday. The opposition members wanted to submit a resolution against the Ordinance but Speaker did not allow.

The opposition members boycotted the session and staged walkout from the Sindh Assembly chanting slogans against the provincial government and the ordinance.

However, the treasury members continued the session and passed Sindh Local Government (Amended) Act 2013 with  majority.

Later, the Speaker adjourned the Sindh Assembly session for an indefinite period.

MQM rejected the Ordinance and had announced to protest on Sunday.
