Justice Nasir appointed acting CEC after Jilani resigns

MULTAN (Web Desk) – Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk has been appointed as acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Friday, Dunya News reported.

The appointment has been made in accordance with terms of Article 217 (2) of the Constitution after Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani resigned as acting CEC.

Justice Nasir will assume his responsibility anytime after being administered oath as acting Chief Election Commissioner early next week.

On Wednesday, President Mamnoon Hussain approved a summary sent by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding appointment of Justice ?Tassaduq Hussain ?Jilani as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).

Justice Jilani will take over as CJP on December 12 after Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry steps down a day earlier, a senior government official told.
