Committees constituted for local bodies elections: ECP
Says Punjab‚ Balochistan and Sindh have prepared laws relating to the local bodies elections.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Election Commission Secretary Ishtiak Ahmad Khan has said that committees have been constituted at national and provincial levels to look into the issues of local bodies elections.
Talking to newsmen after attending a high level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday‚ Ishtiak said the committee at national level will be headed by Additional Secretary Election Commission whereas committees at provincial levels will be headed by the respective Provincial Election Commissioners. All the related departments will be represented in the committees.
He said Punjab‚ Balochistan and Sindh have prepared laws relating to the local bodies elections while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has not yet prepared the required laws. He said all the provinces desired to hold local bodies' elections at the earliest.
He stated Sindh and Balochistan want to hold elections on party basis and Punjab wants local bodies' elections on non-party basis. KPK wants elections on party basis in some parts of the province and on non-party basis in some other areas.
