PM Nawaz meets Chinese counterpart

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif extended an invitation to Mr. Li Keqiang to visit Pakistan.

 

BEIJING (Web Desk) - Formal talks between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang were held at Great Hall of the People in Beijing today (Friday) to further enhance cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields.

 

Earlier‚ the Prime Minister was given warm reception at the Great Hall.

 

Spkeaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said "our friendship is higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the deepest sea in the world, and sweeter than honey".

 

The Prime Minister said he wants to take the relations with China to new heights for the benefit of the two countries.

 

PM Nawaz also extended an invitation to Mr. Li to visit Pakistan which he accepted.

 

The Chinese Prime Minister told him: "I greatly appreciate your great warmth and deep affection for the people of China."

 

Mr. Li said close and cordial Pak-China relations would have a positive impact on the region.

 

The Chinese premier was the first foreign leader to visit Pakistan after Mr Sharif s victory at the polls. 

 

Pakistan and China are close diplomatic and military allies and Mr Sharif, who is on his first foreign trip since his May election, is looking to secure infrastructure projects to tackle a chronic energy crisis and economic malaise in his country.

 

After the meeting, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will go to Shanghai by high-speed train for a China-Pakistan Energy Forum. He is expected to meet with representatives of a power company in Guangzhou before flying home on Monday.
