Senators express concern over security of candidates

Senate urges the government to provide fool proof security to the candidates.

 

ISLAMABAD (Online) - The Senate has shown worry that Taliban may attack political parties so the government should provide fool proof security to the candidates and ensure safety of voters too.

 

PPP’s Senator Mian Raza Rabbani has said if somebody wants to postpone election by giving threat , then he is living in fool’s paradise. He said that the security of former ministers have drawn back while it is being provided to Musharraf , government should stop this double standards.

 

He said that three big political parties having liberal thought including PPP, ANP and MQM are facing challenges from terrorists . The candidates form these three parties are also came under the affect of scrutiny.

 

He said that the country can not afford delay of election even for one hour .Tehrik-e-Talban is issuing statements openly but no political party condemn them.

 

Caretaker Interior Minister said that the he would raise the issue in the cabinet meeting and all the candidates would be provided appropriate security and holding of timely election would be ensured.

 

ANP’s Senator Haji Adeel said that the country is passing through a difficult time and people are horrified due to terrorism incidents on daily basis. He said that coming election would be the first ever in the history of the country , in which no political party could hold big public meeting.

 

He said that the turnout of women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains low , whereas in the prevailing circumstances , they can not poll their vote. He said that the condition is getting worse in three provinces except Punjab.

 

MQM’s Senator Nasreen Jalil said that the role of the rangers in Karachi is not appreciable in Karachi where they enter house to house during their search operations. The workers of MQM are being targeted for the last two years.

 

ANP’s another Senator Zahid Khan said that ANP is not in favour to put any political party with the wall . Over 750 workers and leaders have been killed in sabotage activities .

 

JUP’s Haji Ghulam Ali said that the people of KP are facing many problems in making their national identity cards and now this issue should be resolved on priority basis before elections.
