JUI-F slams EC directives
Senators express concern over ECP code and attitude of the ROs.
Islamabad (Dunya News) – JUI-F Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haidri has said that his party put the measures taken by ECP on the tip of his shoe.
He expressed these views at the meeting of Standing committee of Senate for electoral reforms held at Parliament House on Monday under the chairmanship of its convener Senator Jahangir Badar.
Member of the committee Abdul Ghafoor Haidri said that the Election Commission said in its new order that candidates cannot demand votes on religious basis, which is against the spirit of the constitution as well as the objective of creation of Pakistan.
They would knock the door of Supreme Court in this regard. He said that some unseen powers want to make the country, a secular state.
The committee has expressed apprehensions over the letter from Election Commission of Pakistan, in which the powers of the committee had been challenged.
Chairman Badar told the committee that draft for the reply to the ECP has been prepared.
In the letter by the Senate’s body it would be asked from Election Commission that all the steps taken were in accordance with the law.
Senator Ishaq Dar said that the rude behaviour of Returning Officers during scrutiny of nomination papers remembered the tyranny regime of Pervez Musharraf.
