SC to take up Memo case today
The Supreme Court will take up hearing of the controversial Memogate today.
The Supreme Court will take up hearing of the controversial Memogate case against former ambassador of Pakistan to the US Husain Haqqani today (Monday).
A nine-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising other judges, Justice Nasir-Ul-Mulk, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Tariq Parvez, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed will hear the case.
During the last hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had directed his office to fix the petition for resuming hearing on January 28.
It is pertinent to mention here that a nine-member larger bench of the apex court, headed by the Chief Justice, on November 13, while hearing the case, had directed Interior Secretary Siddique Akbar to chalk out a comprehensive security plan for Hussain Haqqani during his stay in the country.
The apex court had also directed Asma Jehangir to submit a written request to the Interior Secretary, pointing out the apprehensions of Husain Haqqani regarding his security in Pakistan.
The case was brought to light by Mansoor Ijaz, a US citizen of Pakistani origin, when he accused former ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani of writing a memo to US army chief Admiral Mike Mullen seeking the country’s help against a possible military coup in Pakistan.
