ECP approves draft of electoral reforms bill

Five years jail and Rs 100,000 fine for any falsification, Rs 50,000 fine for influencing voters.

 

ISLAMABAD: Important decisions were taken Wednesday in a high-level meeting of the  Election Commission of Pakistan.


It was decided that a 5-year jail and Rs one lakh fine will be imposed for any fabrication during the polls.


Similarly, Rs 50,000 fine will be imposed on those who try to influence the voters.


Election Commission registered 11 new political parties and allotted elections signs to the parties.

The party of Doctor Abdul Qadeer was allotted the sign of missile.


The Election Commission of Pakistan has also asked the government for another grant worth Rs5 billion to meet election expenses.


Law Minister Farooq H Naek informed the Senate in a written reply regarding ECP’s request for additional funds.


Naek explained that around Rs1 billion are requested under the election allowance category, while around Rs210 million are needed for temporary phone connections, Rs870 million for renovation of polling stations, Rs480 million for transporting polling material, Rs450 million for election campaigning and Rs210 for purchasing ballot boxes and voting screens.
