Lahore: Mobile phone service suspended

The cell phone service in several cities, including Lahore, suspended before schedule time.

 

According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had announced that mobile phone service in more than 50 cities across the country will be suspended at 8:00an on Thursday on account of Hazrat Imam Hussain’s Chehlum but the cellular service in Lahore, Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu and Orakzai Agency were suspended well before the schedule time.

 

According to PTA, the cellular service will remain closed in 18 districts of Punjab, 6 districts of Sindh, 9 districts of Balochistan and 6 districts of Azad Kashmir and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

 

Areas where service will remain closed include Karachi, Sakkur, Hyderabad, Kotli, Multan, Lahore, D I Khan, Rawalpindi, Rawlakot, Sargodha, Jafferabad, Jhal Magsi, Bagh, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Bannu, Gilgit and Bhawalpur.

 

Earlier on Wednesday, Punjab Police had also sent a request to Provincial Interior Ministry to block the mobile service as a part of preemptive measures on Hazrat Imam Hussain’s Chehlum.

 

Meanwhile, pillion riding in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad was banned till midnight today on account of Hazrat Imam Hussain’s Chehlum.
