LHC postpones by-polls

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered to postpone the by-polls, Dunya News Friday reported. The court gave its decision on the Punjab Governments petition seeking postponement of the by-polls in the wake of current law and order situation and terrorism threats. The court observed that the Election Commission should decide election date after hearing to the Punjab Government. Talking to the media after the decision, Awami Mulsim League Chairman Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said that the LHC decision was acceptable but they would move the Supreme Court. Rashid maintained that in the history of Pakistan and India it never happened before, adding that they hadnt accused anybody in their petition. Rashid opined that the by-polls were about victor or defeat rather it was about victory of the people. The decision shows that Lahore is the real center of power while election commission has no importance, he added. JI Leader Hafiz Salman Butt termed the Punjab Governments action a cowardly act. Barrister Farooq Hasan told media that it was the first case in the history when on the application of the government, the election commissions decision has been suspended.
