Dual nationality: Ispahani's NA membership suspended

The Supreme Court has suspended the National Assembly membership of Farahnaz Ispahani.

While hearing the dual nationality case on Friday, the apex court observed that Ispahani, cannot be a part of proceedings in the National Assembly.The Supreme Court said that Ispahani had admitted that she was an US citizen but she had not informed the Election Commission (ECP) about her dual-nationality.Farahnaz Ispahani, wife of former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani, was elected as MNA on PPP-P reserved seat ticket.During case proceedings, Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s lawyer sought more time to present the certificate of Malik forfeiting his British citizenship.The hearing of the case has been adjourned till May 30.
