(Agencies) – Iran has yet to deliver its response to a proposed final agreement with the United States aimed at ending tensions between the two countries, according to a source close to Tehran’s negotiating team.
Speaking to Mehr News on Tuesday, the source said discussions over the final draft are still underway in Tehran and that Iranian officials are carefully examining the proposal due to longstanding distrust and concerns over previous US commitments.
“Iran is seeking practical and tangible gains based on past experiences,” the source said.
Regional tensions have remained high since the conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel intensified earlier this year. Although a ceasefire mediated by Pakistan came into effect on April 8, subsequent negotiations in Islamabad failed to secure a permanent agreement, with diplomatic efforts continuing in recent weeks.
One of Tehran’s key demands for a lasting settlement is a halt to fighting across all fronts, including Lebanon, where Israeli military operations have continued.
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reduce military activity in Beirut.
‘RESUMPTION OF HOSTILITIES INEVITABLE’
Meanwhile, concerns over a potential return to hostilities have grown after senior Iranian military official Mohammad Jafar Assadi warned that conflict with the United States could become unavoidable if negotiations collapse.
“The United States wants our complete surrender, but the Iranian nation will never surrender,” Assadi said. “Without surrender, war becomes inevitable.”
Despite reports suggesting Iran had paused indirect negotiations, Trump insisted discussions with Tehran were continuing.
“Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump later said he had not been informed of any suspension in negotiations and indicated that Washington was prepared to remain patient.
Earlier reports by Iranian media claimed Tehran had halted indirect contacts with the United States through mediators amid concerns over developments in Lebanon. The reports contributed to uncertainty in global markets, with oil prices rising sharply following fears of further escalation.
The broader conflict, which has severely affected regional stability and energy markets, has disrupted key shipping routes and increased pressure on international oil supplies, particularly following tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
