KARACHI (Dunya News) – A police officer on polio duty was bitten by a dog in Karachi, authorities said.

Aftab Goher, in-charge of the Dog Bite Clinic at Indus Hospital, said the incident occurred in Quaidabad. He added that earlier, a female polio volunteer was also bitten by a dog in Korangi.

The police officer, aged 21, sustained a second-degree wound and has been administered the anti-rabies vaccine. Last month, two to three polio volunteers were reportedly bitten by dogs while on duty.

Officials stated that dog bite incidents frequently occur during polio campaigns. In October last year, a female polio volunteer was similarly attacked.

Goher further said that over the past month, more than 5,000 dog bite cases have been reported in Karachi, and two fatalities have occurred in Sindh this year due to dog bites.
