Heart disease claims 250,000 lives in Pakistan every year
World Heart Day is celebrated all over the world on 29 Sept
(Web Desk) - Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) coupled with the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine organized a walk in connection with World Heart Day.
The walk led by the FMU Vice Chancellor, Dr Zafar Chaudhary, was organized in the Punjab Medical College on Wednesday which started from VC Office and culminated at the Allied Hospital.
Professor Dr Aamir Shaukat, Dr. Maqsood Ahmed, Dr Muhammad Irfan, Dr Rai Arif and others also participated in the event and addressing the gathering.
World Heart Day is celebrated all over the world on 29 Sept with the aim of creating awareness among people about heart diseases.
Dr Muhammad Irfan, the general secretary of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, said heart diseases are the leading cause of death in the world presently. He claimed that every year heart disease claimed lives of 1 crore 75 lakh people globally. In Pakistan as many as 250,000 people die due to heart diseases, he added.
He said high blood pressure, smoking and excess cholesterol in the body are major reasons of the heart disease.
President of the society, Dr Amir Shaukat said by controlling sugar, measuring our blood pressure periodically, reducing cholesterol levels and exercise daily can prevent heart disease.
