Video shows a prison, not internment camp for unvaccinated people
(Reuters) - A video shared on social media has been claimed to show an internment camp for unvaccinated people, complete with a crematorium.
The complex is actually a prison that has been under construction for several years, and the crematorium is adjacent but not connected.
Viewed over 30,000 times on Facebook (here), the footage shows a high-walled complex where construction work is taking place.
The man filming repeatedly says the site is an internment camp with a crematorium for those who are not unvaccinated against COVID-19.
It is mentioned that the complex is HMP Wells, a prison complex set to open in Northamptonshire in the United Kingdom.
After being approached for comment, Britian’s Ministry for Justice (MOJ) said the claims in the video were untrue.
“Plainly these claims are ridiculous and of course entirely false,” a spokesperson said.
“HMP Five Wells is part of our programme to build 20,000 modern, rehabilitative prison places by the mid-2020s.”
Work on the prison began before the COVID-19 pandemic, in May 2019, and is expected to receive the first prisoner in Feb. 2022 (here , here).
Next to the prison is Nene Valley Crematorium (bit.ly/3pH2k27, nenevalleycrematorium.co.uk/), which was opened in 2016 as part of the local council’s vision to invest taxpayer money into a “valuable service for the local community” and to eliminate long journeys to crematoriums outside the borough.
While Nene Valley Crematorium and the new prison are adjacent to one another, this is their only association. There is no evidence the crematorium is part of the prison complex.
VERDICT
False. The complex shown in the video is a prison, not an internment camp for the unvaccinated. While there is a crematorium situated close to the prison, the two facilities are unconnected.
