She claims constitutional right to freedom of expression
(Web Desk) –Fashion designer Maria B has defended a controversial social media post against the transgender community.
Maria B was summoned by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) following a complaint filed in August by Naeem Butt, also known as Seema Butt, who alleged that the designer's post targeted and defamed the transgender community.
On September 2, Maria B authorized Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq to represent her in the case. In a written response submitted to the NCCIA, her lawyer argued that Maria B had exercised her constitutional right to freedom of expression under Article 19 of the Constitution.
The statement maintained that her post was within legal bounds, made in good faith, and intended for the public good.
The reply further stated that the video at the centre of the controversy did not identify any individuals, as those shown were masked and barely recognizable, rendering any claims of defamation legally baseless.
Maria B also claimed the complaint was filed with malicious intent to harass her.
