Celebrities speak their mind on depression
(Web Desk) - Following the death of Asim Jamil, celebrities have discussed mental health, urging people to look after it.
It was recently revealed that Asim Jamil, the son of renowned scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil has passed away.
Asim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at the family farmhouse.
His brother Maulana Yousaf Jamil shared that Asim had been dealing with depression and was struggling to deal with his mental health.
Since it has been reported, celebrities have come out in solidarity to urge everyone to look after their mental health and to help those who are suffering around them.
Zara Noor Abbas shared a story on Instagram in which she said:
“For all those who say depression happens because you have strayed from your religion, please take the example of Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son.
“He was suffering from it even though he had a household full of religious activities and his father was such an honoured religious scholar.
“Please understand that depression is REAL like any other illness.
“It sucks everything out of you. Please seek help and support for it.”
Syeda Tuba Anwar also shared a heartfelt story, stating:
“May Allah give patience to Maulana Tariq Jamil and his family on the demise of his son. Depression is real.
“Please, please be kind to everyone around you and refrain from judging people based on your myopic mentality.”
Anoushey Ashraf shared the video in which Maulana Yousaf Jamil is speaking of his brother’s demise and she commented:
“I hope those celebrities who unknowingly but hurtfully speak about how depression is being away from Allah realise that it is very much a medical issue.”
“Many troubles and issues in life can perhaps be because of your disconnect with the higher being, I get your viewpoint, but depression is a real sickness and disease.
“It is not about being away from God, it’s about being ill.
Mental health is not often spoken about publicly, but celebrities have started to openly talk about their struggles.
In a bid to make others understand that it is okay not to feel okay sometimes, individuals such as Mahira Khan and Saheefa Jabbar Khattak have spoken about their feelings on their platforms.
Mahira revealed that she suffered episodes of depression after the release of her Bollywood debut Raees.
She admitted that she had been taking anti-depressants for years and knew she had to battle the illness and work through it.
Saheefa shared a raw post on Instagram where she said she felt that she could not see the light at the end of the tunnel.
She admitted that she did not want to live anymore and that she found herself constantly crying.
