‘Barbie’ neither prohibited nor shown in theatres across Punjab

(Web Desk) - Online rumours about Punjab banning the much-awaited Barbie movie have been making the rounds in an odd turn of events.

According to a tweet, the Punjab Film Censor Board has refused to grant the movie an NOC (No Objection Certificate) due to its "objectionable" material.

Barbie has been banned in Pakistan's Punjab province for airing pro-LGBTQ content, according to the notice, which soon grabbed attention on Twitter. The Punjab censor board has refused to give the film its NOC unless the "objectionable" content has been changed."

Further fuelling these rumours, a quick Google search reveals that popular Lahore movie theatres like Cue Cinemas, Cine Star and Universal Cinemas are not showing the movie. All the venues listed are simultaneously showing Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which has confused and raised suspicions among viewers regarding the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starring film.

I'm sorry, what? I just purchased my tickets," one user tweeted. Another expressed their displeasure, "Hope they ban Oppenheimer for 'nudity' too."

In Sindh and the Islamabad Capital Territory, the movie is doing well.
