Agra: Artistes from SAARC nations perform at folklore expo
Artistes belonging to SAARC countries perform at a folklore and heritage festival in India.
Folk artistes belonging to member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) regaled audiences on the last day of the three-day Folklore and Heritage Festival in Agra city of Indias northern Uttar Pradesh state on Sunday.The festival featured traditional performers from India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.Noor Zaheer, the festivals chief coordinator, said that our societal roots lay in its folk traditions, and it was important to share them and never let traditional arts die down.Zaheer also said that South Asia possessed a rich heritage of folk traditions, and that the folk songs of the region were unique in that they captured all human emotions, in varying degrees of grief and happiness.Visitors at the festival said that such events reminded people of how they were moving away from their roots, and that such performances were a refreshing reminder of a beautiful shared legacy.The fourth SAARC Folklore and Heritage festival had begun in Agra on Friday (September 30), where artistes from eight member countries, through the medium of traditional dance and music, came together to display the uniqueness of their cultures.The three-day festival was organised by the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature (FOSWAL) in association with the Foreign Ministry of India.
