Some Pakistanis continue to face difficulties accessing social media websites and apps

LAHORE (Web Desk) - In response to the pleas of the public, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reinstated mobile data services across the nation. After what felt like an eternity for internet users, the restoration finally took place.

Earlier this week, the PTA had announced an indefinite suspension of mobile broadband services on the orders of the interior ministry. This decision came amidst widespread protests following the arrest of Imran Khan, the chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

However, the situation took a surprising turn when, just a few hours after the announcement, mobile data services and the suspended social media platforms were restored. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had previously stated that the internet would remain blocked until the arrest of those responsible for arson attacks on people's homes.

Despite the restoration of mobile data services, some Pakistanis continue to face difficulties accessing social media websites and apps such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube without the use of virtual private networks (VPNs). VPNs are applications that allow users to bypass firewalls by changing their IP location.

Nevertheless, those fortunate enough to have their internet services restored even temporarily celebrated the respite with humorous memes. The lifting of the VPN requirement brought a sense of joy to people, as they bid farewell to virtual locations and welcomed a return to unrestricted access within Pakistan.

Although the restoration of mobile data services is a welcome relief for now, it is worth noting that VPNs remain a popular tool for internet users in a country where internet services and websites are frequently subjected to bans.
