RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – The residents of Rawalpindi have expressed solidarity with the armed forces by displaying banners and billboards along one of the busiest roads in the city.
The billboards sprung up from Marrir Chowk to Faizabad via Murree Road. These were inscribed with pro-military slogans and photographs of recipients of Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military award for valour. The posters have at the bottom words “from the residents of Rawalpindi.”
These billboards are a token of appreciation and expression of solidarity with the Pakistan army after attacks on military installation, including General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence, by the supporters of PTI chief Imran Khan last week. The former prime minister was arrested by the Rangers on the premises of the Islamabad High Court in Al-Qadir Trust case.
Interestingly, the placards affixed on lampposts along the road as well as metro bus flyovers include some banners from the PML-N. Through these banners, the local PML-N leadership urged people to join a rally on Saturday evening. The rally, however, was later cancelled.
Meanwhile, an official of the Parks and Horticulture Authority said that these banners were put up without their permission as required by law.
He claimed that the banners would be removed and action would be taken against those who displayed these banners without its permission.
