Ramdas Athawale said to oppose Bollywood film 'Aarakshan' if it will show anti-Dalits sentiments.
Leader of Indias regional Republican Party of India, Ramdas Athawale, said that he would oppose Bollywood film Aarakshan, if the contents of the film turn out to be against the interests of Dalits (lower caste people). He said this while addressing mediapersons in Mumbai of Indias western Maharashtra state on Sunday.Prakash Jhas film is going to be released soon. We respect him, since he has directed social-issue based films like Rajneeti and Gangajal. We just want that the film Aarakshan should portray Dalits in a positive light. Dr. Ambedkar had introduced the concept of reservation to uplift the underprivileged classes of society, so we want no problem, said Athawale. He added that the promo of the film depicts the Dalits in a poor light. If Prakash Jhas film creates differences between various sections of the society, then the Republican Party of India would protest against this film and would halt the screening at theatres. The film is scheduled to hit the cinema halls on August 12.
