American designer Raul Melgoza of Luca Luca and designer Richard Chai showed a Fall 2011 collection bursting with color and forest fantasy details on Thursday at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.

The lean-line clothes in warm colors and luxe fabrics, with some splashes of fur, were created for women who want fashion again after making do with fade-into-the-woodwork basics during the recession. Raul’s message came through loud and clear with the first look he sent down the runway. His capelet trench coat was a vision in butterscotch poplin, teamed with slouchy avocado leather pants and a silk blouse in a fuchsia leaf print. While the military shoulders plus asymmetrical collars on wrap coats and vests designed by Chai gave women alternatives to classic blazers, trench coats and turtlenecks. Most styles were cut close to the body. Pants ranged from cigarette legs to wide hems recalling the 1970s. The designer created a cohesive look that will offer plenty of mileage to women who travel. Long pleated silk skirts in dark gray, cream and deep blue fluttered around the ankles as the models walked the runway. These styles could break the monotony of a cold day and would pack well in a carry-on to jet off to a winter wedding.
