Earlier, Meryl Streep received an award for Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement. He had criticised Trump for mocking a disabled reporter during one of the election campaign speeches.

While bashing Trumo, she said, "He (Trump) imitated a disabled reporter. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."
Donald Trump has hit back following her speech and tweeted that she is an over-rated Hollywood actress. He called her a Hillary flunky after the actress had asked media to stand up against Trump.
