Snowman competition in Moscow

Russians are getting their creative caps on to enjoy the long-lasting wintertime.
BEIJING: Three days of continuous snowfall in Moscow provides plenty of raw material for a snowman building competition, where families are turning thick snow on the ground into fine pieces of art.
Freezing weather didn’t thwart the enthusiasm of Moscow residents towards their traditional winter fun. The 310 teams at the competition was the largest in recent years. Many of the teams were made up of parents and children, vying for the attention of the judges and passers-by. Family fun is mixed with a feel of achievement.
Competitor said, “I’m really happy. We all can’t wait to see the final look of the snowman we’re making.” It is designed and made by our whole family. We are now adding the final touches to it.
The fresh snow is too soft for making a snowman. But competitors know the trick of the trade, spraying water on the snow to pack it faster. If you want to attract the judges’ attention, just making a simple snowman is not enough, no matter how big it is... size isn’t all to score.
Judge said, "This snowman is very interesting, I like it, I will give it a high score even though it’s not in accordance with our judging standards, such as the snowman having to be made from three snowballs."
