KP governor urges to achieve target of on quality education
KP Governor lauded the excellent performance of University of Engineering and Technology.
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the excellent performance of University of Engineering and Technology in achieving its targets; especially in respect of quality, access and relevance is indeed of great importance towards achievement of desired goals.
He was addressing the Convocation 2013 of the University on Monday, where more than 220 graduates were honoured with PhD, M.Sc and bachelor degrees in Electrical, Computer System, Computer Science & I.T; Architecture, Mechanical, Mining, Chemical, Industrial, Basic Sciences & Islamiat, Telecom, Electronics, Computer Software, Mechatronics, Civil, and Agriculture engineering, ten got gold medals for achieving distinctive positions.
While promoting meaningful and market oriented education in this particular sector, he said there must also be no compromise on quality which is also must to ensure a change in over-coming the confronting problems”.
Muhammad Fahad Khan and Miss Hikmat Nissa also bagged Presidential Cash awards for their excellent performance.
Barrister Masood Kausar who is also the Chancellor of the University, also stressed the importance of more efficient role of this institution in socio-economic uplift of the country especially in this province and further urged that there is a need of taking the relevant institutions and organization especially the policy makers, entrepreneurs and the public representatives along.
To ensure efficient management of resources and avoid haphazard constructions, he added, promotion of debates and discussions at the campus is the best way.
He also announced a cash award of Rs.0.1 million annually for those who excel in such debates.
Referring to the recent additions in shape of Earthquake Engineering Centre, Centre of Gemstone and Jewelry, National Institute of Urban Planning, Institute of Mechatronics, Advanced Research and Innovation and Commercialization set ups at the campus, the Governor said transformation of knowledge base into knowledge economy must be the next challenge so that the national could see the real results.
The Governor also wished early completion of the Jalozai Campus of the University to make comparatively better academic environment both for the students and the teachers.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, presenting the annual report of the University on this occasion said that they have been strictly abiding by the academic calendar and without any loss of time; the students have been regularly graduating from their respective disciplines over the past one-decade.
Earlier, the Governor gave away degrees and awards. Aurangzeb, Muhammad Omer, Farha Shahzad, Kausar Mahmood, Syed Zahid Shah, Mubeen Aitizaz, Muhammad Qasim Rauf, Khawar Naseem, Muhammad Fahad Khan, Hazrat Bilal and Maria Rehman achieved gold medals for achieving distinctive positions in their respective disciplines.
