KARACHI (Dunya News) – An investigation report into the escape of 225 inmates from Malir Jail has been released, uncovering alarming lapses in prison management and security.
According to the findings, former Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah has been held primarily responsible for negligence. Assistant Superintendent Abdullah Khaskheli and Deputy Superintendent Zulfiqar Pirzada have also been found accountable. The report recommends the registration of FIRs against all three officers.
The report also finds negligence from Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons.
The report suggested that the incident was not merely due to a lapse in duty, but it was a complete failure of prison system. It highlighted lack of training and adequate security at the jail.
The prison’s modern CCTV and alarm systems were found to be non-functional at the time of the jailbreak, the report revealed.
