An average two women get abducted every hour and seven children are sexually assaulted every day

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab has recorded alarming level of cases of kidnap and rape in the first four months of 2023, a report reveals.

A non-governmental organisation (NGO) working for women and children's rights has released the report regarding violent incidents. The report reveals that more than 5,551 women were abducted during first four months of 2023, with an average of two women being abducted every hour. The Lahore district has been a hotspot for such incidents.

The report states that during January-April, 10,000 cases of violent crimes against women and 1,768 cases of violence against children were reported in Punjab.

Nearly, 1,111 women were raped, whereas 858 incidents of sexual crimes against children were observed. Almost seven children were sexually assaulted every day.

According to data obtained from the police, Lahore remained the district with the highest number of reported cases.

According to the NGO's Executive Director, Kausar Abbas, the role of Punjab Police in registering such cases is commendable, because usually such cases go unreported. The increase in reporting of such incidents is tantamount to the first step towards resolution of such misogynistic crimes, he adds.
