Maid torture case: Court sends wife of Rana Munir to jail for 14 days

FAISALABAD (Dunya News) - A local court has sent wife of Rana Munir who tortured a minor housemaid in Faisalabad to jail for 14 days.

The court has rejected the arguments of the accused’s lawyers and ordered to interrogate the woman and has sought bail documents of the accused Rana Munir.

A video aired on Dunya News on Saturday showed Rana Munir, president of Eden Valley Housing Society in Madina Town, along with his wife, Samina Munir, torturing Sadaf, a young housemaid. A case was registered against the couple on the complaint of Child Protection Bureau Officer Samina Nadir and police arrested Rana Munir.

Police kept accused in the lock-up and produced him before the court of Zulfiqar Ahmed. The judge released Munir against surety bonds of Rs100,000.

The lawyer of the accused took the position that the violence against the girl has not been proved, and no medico-legal has been done. In the same case the bail of one accused has been granted yesterday and the heirs are also reluctant to take action, lawyer argued.

The child protection lawyer said that the police did not get the girl medically examined and her statements were recorded after intimidating her. The apex court, while seeking bail documents of accused Rana Munir, adjourned the hearing till December 20.
