COLOMBO (Dunya News) – Pakistan will face a crucial second test in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup tomorrow when they take on England in Kandy at 6:30 pm local time.

A win is essential for Pakistan to strengthen their path towards the semi-finals.

Pakistan’s journey in the tournament has been a mixed one. The Green Shirts advanced to the Super Eight after finishing second in Group A, securing wins over the Netherlands, USA and Namibia, while suffering their only group-stage defeat against India.

The loss to India was particularly heavy, with Pakistan beaten by 61 runs after being bowled out for 114 while chasing 175. However, the team bounced back strongly in their final group match, thrashing Namibia by 102 runs to seal qualification.

PAKISTAN IN SUPER EIGHT

Pakistan’s Super Eight campaign began with frustration when their opening match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain, forcing both teams to share a point. This has increased the importance of the upcoming fixtures, particularly the clash against England.

The national squad has since focused on correcting shortcomings during intensive practice sessions, with players sharpening their batting, bowling and fielding. Team management has emphasised consistency and discipline ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

TEAM MORALE

Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan expressed confidence in the side’s readiness. “Our morale is high, and we plan to give England a tough time,” he said. Farhan highlighted the strength of Pakistan’s spin attack and praised Usman Tariq for his impressive rhythm in the nets.

Players appeared focused and energetic during training, reflecting the importance attached to the upcoming fixture.

SEMI-FINAL HOPES

A victory over England would significantly ease Pakistan’s route to the semi-finals, making the Super Eight contest a defining moment in their World Cup campaign. With one point already on the board after the washed-out match, Pakistan need a strong showing to keep their qualification hopes firmly in their own hands.
